Practice Groups

The San Antonio WAVE offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is our goal to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

2010-2011 Practice Groups

 

 

 

Novice

 

Requirements for Entry into Group:

-Balanced Freestyle for 25 yards in less than 0:55 seconds

-Backstroke for 25 yards

-One-arm butterfly for 25 yards

-Breaststroke with proper timing between arms and legs for 25 yards.

-Able to swim in a lane with other swimmer (circle swim).

 *If the swimmer is coming from Sunfish Swimming Lessons, these will have all been achieved.

Requirements for Advancement to Intermediate Group:

-Complete a 100 Individual Medley legally in a USA Sanctioned Swim Meet.

Intermediate

 

(ES) Elementary

(Ages 7-10)

 

(MS) Middle School

(Ages 11-14)

Requirements for Entry into Group:

Complete a 100 Individual Medley legally in a USA Sanctioned Swim Meet.

Requirements to Move to Advanced B Group:

Swimmer must achieve 2 or more of the Intermediate Time Standards, in more than one discipline.  (Time standards shown below)

 *Note:  If the swimmer turns 11 before achieving the qualifications for Advanced B, the swimmer will transition from the Intermediate (ES) group to the Intermediate (MS) group.


 

Advanced

B

 

 

Requirements for Entry into Group:

Swimmer must achieve 2 or more of the Intermediate Time Standards, in more than one discipline.  (Time standards shown below)

Requirements to Move to Advanced A Group:

Swimmer must qualify for STAGS or Senior Champs in more than one disclipine, and have the approval of the Head Coach AND the coach of the Advanced A Group.

 

 

Advanced

A

 

Requirements for Entry into Group:

-Swimmer must have qualified for STAGS or Senior Champs in two disclipines.

-Approval given by the Head Coach AND the coach of the Advanced A Group

There is an attendance requirement of 4 workouts /week, one meet per month depending on the meet schedule and compete in both LCM and SCY Championship meets. The coach may dismiss a swimmer from this group if behavior does not meet the SA WAVE swimmer code of conduct.

 

 

Senior

2

 

Requirements for Entry into Group:

Swimmer should have a desire to practice to improve stroke technique, a willingness to compete in meets and must be able to swim a 50 Freestyle without stopping.

Requirements to Advance to Senior 1:

-Swimmer must achieve Senior 1 Time Standards, in two different discplines.  (Time standards shown below).

-Swimmer must complete a Test set of 10x100 @ 1:25.00.

 

Senior

Requirements for Entry into Group:

Swimmer must achieve Senior 1 Time Standards, in two different disciplines.  (Time standards shown below).

Requirements to Advance to Senior B:

Swimmer must achieve two “A” minimum times based on the 2009-2012 National Age Group Motivational Times.

 

 

 

 

 

Senior

B

 

Requirements for Entry into Group:

-Swimmer must achieve two “A” minimum times, in different disciplines, based on the 2009-2012 National Age Group Motivational Times.

-Agreement to meet the attendance requirement of 7 workouts per week and no less than 30 workouts per month.  (This requirement includes both Wave and High School practices)

-Swimmer must compete in one meet per month, depending on meet schedule.

-Swimmer must compete in a Senior Championship Meet, Sectionals and either Junior Nationals or Senior Nationals*.

 *If qualifying times achieved

 

**Note:  The coach may dismiss a swimmer from this group if behavior does not meet the Wave swimmer code of conduct.

 

Requirements to Advancement to Senior A:

Swimmer must achieve two qualifying times on the Texas Senior Circuit Standards.  Placement into this group also requires the approval of the Head Coach and the coach of the Senior A group.

 

 

 

Senior

A

-Swimmer must achieve two qualifying times on the Texas Senior Circuit Standards.

-Approval of the Head Coach and the coach of Senior A.

-Agreement to meet the attendance requirement of 8 workouts per week and no less than 35 workouts per month.  (This requirement includes both Wave and High School practices)

-Swimmer must compete in one meet per month, depending on meet schedule.  Swimmer must compete in a Senior Series Meets, Sectionals and either Junior Nationals or Senior Nationals*.

*If qualifying times achieved

 **Note:  The coach may dismiss a swimmer from this group if behavior does not meet the Wave swimmer code of conduct.
